What is Hand Reflexology?
This is a shorter version of a regular foot reflexology treatment. For clients that do not like their feet being touched or massaged, this is an alternative that can provide the same benefits.
How does it work?
The theory behind hand reflexology is the same as foot reflexology; by stimulating reflex points in the hands we can identify any imbalances in corresponding parts of the body and trigger the body's natural healing process. Hand reflexology will often be incorporated into foot reflexology treatments as client aftercare, where specific reflex points will be shown to clients to work on at home to help continue to stimulate those reflexes between sessions, such as the shoulder reflex or spinal points for back pain.
What is a treatment like?
Initially, you will need to have a consultation to discuss your health and lifestyle before any treatment can be given. Hand reflexology treatments are very relaxing and many people find themselves drifting off to sleep! If there are any imbalances in the body, these may be identified by the therapist due to 'crunchiness' in parts of the hands, or the appearance of the skin on the hands. As a client, you may experience sensitivities in different parts of the hands, which you should identify to your therapist. Such
sensitivities are similar to those experienced in any other type of massage.
What is Hand Reflexology useful for?
Clients sometimes opt for this treatment due to having problems with their hands, such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Arthritis in the hands, as it can help to alleviate symptoms related to such conditions. Hand reflexology should not be considered as an alternative to medical treatment, but can act as an excellent complementary therapy - plus, it will leave your hands lovely and soft!
